Cultural Adjustment and Trauma Services(CATS)

Cultural Adjustment and Trauma Services(CATS) provides innovative, evidence-based treatment and services to first and second-generation immigrant children in Clifton and Jersey City Public Schools who have experienced or witnessed traumatic event(s).

Traumatic events range from domestic violence, neglect, traumatic loss, loss as a result of migration, to child abuse and community/school violence. Trauma-informed, comprehensive, culturally and linguistically accessible services for students consist of on-site and school based individual and family counseling, support and clinical groups and case-management.

Interventions are offered at multiple levels, with children, their families, their schools, and their communities to promote and advocate for individual and systemic understanding of the multiple cultural and psychosocial challenges facing immigrant children and families.

Cultural Adjustment and Trauma Services program is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and is a member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.(www.nctsn.org)
